OUR HISTORY
THE BUILDING
The restaurant is located in an historic building. It is the House of the lawyer and perpetual alderman, Antonio Méndez de Lara and the apothecary Diego de Lara. It is located on the corner of Calle Mayor 56, and the entrance is on the Town Hall Square.
THE RESTAURANT
In 1991 we decided to go for a change, leaving our industrial jobs in the city and moving to an emblematic town on the St James’ Way: Santo Domingo de La Calzada.
Our challenge was to give life to a family restaurant located in the old town, next to the Romanesque apse of the Cathedral, the Parador de Turismo and the passage to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The restaurant’s location was practically a requirement to opt for the typical food of the area, as that is what customers are bound to demand. Nonetheless, we wanted to give our dishes a few brushstrokes of innovative creation that quickly turned us into a dining milestone on the St James’ Way.

OUR CUISINE
In an effort to satisfy our most demanding clients, we prepare all our dishes with local produce, and our lamb and beef come from local pastures, making them worthy of mention. We should also mention our speciality, cod, prepared in various ways.
Our philosophy is to conclude a good meal with a good dessert. Our master pastry chef offers a large variety of home-made desserts that are sure to delight all sweet tooths.

WHAT TO VISIT?
In Santo Domingo de La Calzada you can visit the Cathedral, where you can see the live cock and hen, recalling the most famous miracle of the Middle Ages.
The Cistercian convent, the pilgrims’ hostel, the Plaza de España, where the Town Hall is located, the old corn exchange, the customhouse, the ancient chief magistrate’s office of La Rioja and Royal Jail and the Plaza del Santo.
The Calle Mayor, with its coats of arms, the Parador de Santo Domingo de La Calzada, which rises above the old pilgrims’ hostel and the Parador of Bernardo de Fresneda, located in the convent of San Francisco.
Shrine of La Mesa del Santo, 1 kilometre away, on the splendid promenade along the road to Haro.
The May festivities (held 10-15 May every year) offer a diversity of events while maintaining ancient tradition, and that is why they are listed as a National Tourist Attraction.
In September, we celebrate the Feasts of Thanksgiving and of San Jerónimo Hermosilla.
In recent years the Market of the Way and Medieval Market (held on and around 6-8 December) have achieved considerable renown.
